A CHRISTIAN RESPONSE TO RACISM

There is so much racial tension in our world today…

As a Christian I have always held firmly to the view that racism is fundamentally satanic, it is a matter of two or more people groups being under the wicked assault of Satan at the same time. Both the perpetrators of racism and the victims of racism, both the slaves and the slave masters, the oppressed and the oppressor are captives of the real oppressor of mankind which is Satan. Racism is unnatural, it is evil, it is cruel, it is deeply satanic therefore the perpetrators of racism are to be pitied so much more than the victims of racism. A racist is someone whose mind and soul are brutally chained by the rulers of the darkness of this world.

Those who uphold racism believe they are superior to others when they are not. Ironically if they were superior they would not have upheld racism which is clearly a manifestation of an inferiority and insecurity complex. The racist is actually confused. The racists are doing damage to themselves without realizing it. Jesus asks the question if the light that is in you is darkness how great is the darkness (Matthew 6:23). In other words, if darkness appears to you like light, you are in real darkness and might be doomed to perpetuate it.

For me as a person of African descent now born again in Christ, I feel neither inferior nor superior to anyone because I know I am not. I have been liberated from thinking on that low level of comparison. I now have the mind of Christ. Thank God for the glorious liberty in Jesus Christ. Our world is filled with all kinds of troubles and bondages but if Jesus Christ makes you free you are free indeed (John 8:36).
